Alan Wake 2’s appearance during May 2023’s PlayStation Showcase gave us a set of new details about the highly-anticipated sequel, with publisher Epic Games finally shedding some light on its price, pre-order bonuses, and the contents of its deluxe edition.
Although it’s slated to be one of 2023’s high-profile releases, Alan Wake 2 does things a bit differently, sacrificing a physical release in order to launch at a lower price point, especially for those of us picking it up on PC. Read on below for all the details.
Alan Wake 2 Price and Pre-order Details
Two different editions of Alan Wake 2 are currently available for pre-order. The Standard Edition includes the base game and is priced at $49.99/€49.99/£39.99 on PC and $59.99/€59.99/£49.99 on consoles (Xbox Series X/S and PS5).
Alan Wake 2’s Deluxe Edition is, predictably, more expensive and will set you back $69.99/€69.99/£54.99 on PC while costing $79.99/€79.99/£64.99 on consoles. Aside from the base game, it includes the following pieces of extra content:
- Expansion Pass (Night Springs Expansion and Lake House Expansion)
- Nordic Shotgun Skin for Saga (Part of the Expansion Pass)
- Parliament Shotgun Skin for Alan
- Crimson Windbreaker for Saga
- Celebrity Suit for Alan
- Lantern Charm for Saga
Alan Wake 2’s pre-order bonuses are given to anyone who purchases either edition prior to launch. They grant the Ornate Revolver Skin for Alan and Survival Resources Pack for Saga.
Saga’s Survival Resources Pack contains the following items, which are unlocked during the second mission: rocket flare, first aid kit, painkillers, and a coffee mug charm.
As per the title’s Epic Games Store page, the coffee mug charm “saves Saga from dying from a killing blow,” but it breaks permanently after use.
You can see how the cosmetic items above look on the game’s official website.
As far as Alan Wake 2 only benefitting from a digital release goes, the publisher had the following to say:
“There are many reasons for this. For one, a large number of players have shifted to digital only. You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is a digital only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only.
Secondly, not releasing a disc helps keep the price of the game at $59.99 / €59.99 and the PC version at $49.99 / €49.99.
Finally, we did not want to ship a disc product and have it require a download for the game — we do not think this would make for a great experience either.”</b>
Alan Wake 2’s lower price on PC could also be a result of it launching as an Epic Games Store exclusive.
