Aliens: Fireteam Elite’s launch saw thousands of players rushing down dark hallways while facing an onslaught of Xenomorphs, only to discover that a handful of desired features, like crouching or voice chat on PC are missing.
Those who have taken to online forums to criticize Aliens: Fireteam Elite’s launch state have also named the lack of a FOV (field of view) slider as a source of disappointment.
“There’s literally no way to voice chat with the random players you play with on steam unless I physically add them to my friend list… what the f***,” one disgruntled Reddit user wrote.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite does, indeed, lack voice and text chat at launch, at least on PC. Console players can use their platform’s party features to communicate with their teammates but, if you’re on Steam, you have to manually add players to your friends list and either start a voice call or share your Discord server.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite Voice Chat
The only in-game means of communication is a rudimentary, but nonetheless helpful, ping system. Many players will play through Fireteam in pre-made parties, but teaming up through matchmaking could be a bit of a pain. There’s currently no easy way to help out newer players with tips or organize your defense on higher difficulties, where the Xenos do hit quite hard.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite Crouch option?
The lack of a crouch mechanic affects players tackling missions on Intense difficulty and above, where friendly fire comes into play.
The amount of friendly fire on Intense difficulty seems to be rather mild, based on our experience, but when you’re dealing with three Warriors and their Runner pals, things can get rather hectic. On top of that, the lack of voice and text chat makes it hard to point out the presence of friendly fire to players who may not be aware of it.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite Field of View Slider Missing
Although you’d more often expect it to be a point of discussion in first-person shooters, the omission of a field of view slider also makes Aliens: Fireteam Elite difficult to play for some players.
“This and the visual recoil on guns are giving me headaches and ive been playing 20 minutes,” Reddit user ChangeMyUsername wrote.
None of these features seem to have been added in Aliens: Fireteam Elite’s day one update. With the game having launched only a couple of hours ago, it might also be a while before we hear from developer Cold Iron Studios, but we’ll update this article as soon as there’s an update.
We’re still working our way through Aliens: Fireteam Elite’s multiplayer, but you can check out our review in progress for some early impressions.
