When will the reboot of Alone in the Dark release for PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5? The esteemed series is set for a revival, led by Pieces Interactive and funded by its current owner and publisher, THQ Nordic. It will star David Harbour and Jodie Comer.
THQ revealed this reinterpretation of the ’90s cult favorite during its GamesCom showcase. However, specifics about its release date remained undisclosed at that time.
Here’s everything we know about Alone in the Dark’s Release Date, gameplay specifics, character and story details, as well as platform compatibility and where you’ll be able to purchase the game upon its release.
Alone in the Dark Release Date
The remake/reimagining of the classic survival horror Alone in the Dark was meant to be released in 2023. At the top of a showcase for the game, it was revealed Alone in the Dark would be coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series on October 25. It would have joined Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 in releasing for the Halloween season, but unfortunately, it was delayed on the 5th of September.
- Release Date: 20th March, 2024
Unfortunately, THQ and Pieces Interactive sent out word that it’s decided to move Alone in the Dark out of the “chaotic October 2023 launch window”.
Yes, the reason for this delay is because of Spider-Man and Alan Wake, “Our intention is to avoid competing with the wake of Alan’s epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man.” Alone in the Dark will now be released for the PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 on the 20th of March 2024.
Here’s the statement in full about the release date delay:
“Our intention is to avoid competing with the wake of Alan’s epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man. We aim to truly remain as Alone in the Dark as possible. To honor this, the spine-chilling horror game has been rescheduled to unveil its horrors on 20th March, 2024. This extension will serve a dual purpose: not only will it permit us to meticulously perfect the gaming experience, but it will also grant us the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in the remarkable releases of October.
Alone in the Dark Story and Gameplay
The game is a reinterpretation of the original 1992 version, yet it incorporates elements from the second and third installments too. It involves Detective Edward Carnby, who is drawn into the enigmatic Derceto mansion by a worried Emily Hartwood. Positioned in the deep South, the game infuses Southern Gothic tones and is set to a Doom Jazz soundtrack that already strikes a compelling chord.
Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood are back to solve puzzles, explore the deep hallways of the Derceto Manor in the gothic American South during the 1920s, and uncover the mystery of Emily’s missing uncle, Jeremy Hartwood.
In this reimagined version of the classic 90s survival horror game, Derceto has transformed into a facility for the mentally ill. Jeremy Hartwood, a former resident, was seemingly driven to madness by Cthulhu and its haunting followers.
Ammunition will naturally be sparse, with a host of perilous monsters to confront. As you navigate through Derceto, you’ll meet its peculiar residents and unravel a narrative of encroaching evil. This story is penned by Mikael Hedberg, renowned for crafting the plots for games like SOMA and Amnesia.
The new version will make Emily Hartwood playable in her own campaign alongside Carnby. And for extra flavor, the roles of Carnby and Hartwood have been taken up by actors David Harbour (Stranger Things) and Jodie Comer (Killing Eve).
A prologue demo is available now as a mood taster for the final game.
