Update, November 20: Ancient Frontier: Steel Shadows will officially be coming out on 11th of December, this year, so if you're looking forward to dishing out some green-hot plasma in the vacuum of space, boy are you in luck.
Update, August 23: Fair Weather Studios have announced that the 'expandalone' Steel Shadows will release in Q4 2018, rather than this Summer as we've previously expected. Developers have also noted that the asking price for Ancient Frontier: Steel Shadows will be $14.99.
Original text, July 3: Ancient Frontier: Steel Shadows is a turn-based role-playing title where players take control over a small band of outlaws fighting their way across the galaxy. A rags to riches story in the making? Perhaps, but we'll leave that discussion for some other time.
For this standalone expansion of Ancient Frontier, the developers promise to deliver a full campaign featuring at least 20 story missions, more than 50 procedurally-generated side missions, dynamic turn-based combat scenarios, the ability to fiddle with both your ships and your crew so that you outfit them as you see fit, randomised events to spice things up and a lot of other exciting things to look forward to.
Players can also expect a considerably large playing field, with varied maps to fight across, a layer of strategic resource management that includes maintaining and operating weapons systems and abilities and a whole new tech tree to push your fleet through.
Ancient Frontier: Steel Shadows will also include The Crew and Quests and Events - two free DLCs that the developers used to expand upon their first title. With that, Steel Shadows is looking to be quite something when it's finally out, with the only release date currently offered being that of Summer 2018.
