Apex Legends has reached the frankly incredible number of 50 million active players in only 4 short weeks following its surprise release. While its success can be related to a number of reasons, the only thing that really matters is that it's doing great.
No less impressive is the fact that Apex Legends overtook Fortnite's player count in the given timeframe. While it took no more than three days for Apex to reach 10 million players, it took Fortnite Battle Royale two weeks to do the same.
As the chart above clearly shows, Apex Legends is enjoying a rather explosive success that has the potential to completely overshadow Fortnite if Respawn and EA continue doing what they've been doing so far.
Putting things into practical terms, Apex Legends attained 1 million players after only 8 hours of it being available, and reached 10 million players in no more than three days. For the sake of comparison, it took Fortnite two weeks to score those numbers. As it stands, at four weeks after release, Apex Legends is sitting at 50 million players, while it took 16 weeks for Fortnite to reach 45 million.
It goes without saying that, should Apex continue to enjoy this amount of attention, it may well overtake Fortnite in the number of active players, and ridiculously quickly at that, too. With PUBG falling into relative obscurity and other battle royales simply being unable to keep up, Fortnite seems to finally have a compelling competitor.
