Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan was the first title from Kiroo Games, itself the first game studio in Central Africa. It is part side scrolling action game based on African mythology, part fantasy RPG, and is currently on sale over at the official storefront.
A few years on and the developers still have a lot to say about their pride and joy. “We think Aurion has a lot to offer to more gamers around the world, who don’t know that the game exists yet. More than the fun gameplay, Aurion is a story written for everyone with a self-existential quest. We really shared our soul inside the game.”
Aurion has been available on Steam for a while and featured as part of a Humble Bundle and what reviews it has are generally very positive with the art and writing being consistently praised. The main caveat is that you really should play with a controller as the mouse and keyboard can be awkward.

Aurion also has a long running graphic novel based on the setting and plot of the game, with gorgeously inky artwork and action packed fight scenes, so if you are keen to experience a culture left mostly untouched by western media, this is another way to get your feet wet.
You can check out the game on its Steam page for the reviews, or head on over to their own Aurion Shop to grab a 50% discount.
