As Baldur’s Gate 3 swiftly heads towards its full release, we’re all busy deciding the character, class, and companions we’ll pick during our first playthrough. Weighing into these decisions is the game’s party size limit, which determines the number of adventurers we can control exploring the Forgotten Realms.
Baldur’s Gate 3 party size is a rather important thing to consider, due to how it ends up shaping our overall experience with the RPG. On the one hand it is a limiting factor, ensuring that we’ll have to carefully think about how our character’s class synergizes with our chosen companions.
What is Baldur's Gate 3 Party Size limit?
Baldur’s Gate 3’s party size also ends up determining which characters’ stories we experience more intimately during our first playthroughs.
On the other hand, it ensures that there’s plenty to try out and see on subsequent playthroughs, partly fueling the game’s replayability.
During its stay in Steam Early Access, Baldur’s Gate 3 party size was limited to four members.
By the looks of it, developer Larian Studios does not plan to change this number for the game’s full launch.
Anyone aiming to play through the campaign as it was intended, will have a limit of four characters to consider.

While this number is lower than the previous entries’ six-character limit, it is worth keeping in mind that it has the potential of making things more readable and easier to manage in combat.
Although Baldur’s Gate 3’s party size member limit may not officially increase at launch, there is still a chance that modders will tweak the number at some point further down the line.
