Will Black Myth: Wukong get any DLC or expansion packs in the future? Game Science’s action role-playing game Black Myth: Wukong has continued to sell like the proverbial hotcakes, and for the growing number of fans, it looks like there won’t be a long wait for more.
Black Myth: Wukong is based on the legend of the Monkey King, and has been smashing records left and right since its release last month. It amassed 10 million copies sold in just three days, and it’s now gone past 18 million copies sold in ridiculously quick fashion. On a budget of $70 million, it’s already made well over $800 million. For comparison, Elden Ring sold around 12 million copies in a similar time frame.
When will Black Myth: Wukong's expansion be released?
Black Myth: Wukong debuted to pretty good reviews on PC, garnering an 81 score on Metacritic. That, combined with its staggering sale numbers, means there’s clearly a need for more boss-smacking goodness from Game Science, and Hero Games shareholder Daniel Wu told Bloomberg that an expansion is in development for the game.
Wu told Bloomberg that fans won’t have to wait another six years for a follow-up, as an expansion will bridge the gap and hopefully give Black Myth: Wukong a shot in the arm a couple of years down the line, much the same way Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion did.
We don’t think developer Game Science will be ready to release the Black Myth: Wukong expansion DLC until at least 2025.
The story of Black Myth: Wukong sees an anthropomorphic monkey known as The Destined One on a quest to retrieve relics that will revive the legendary Sun Wukong. Along the way, he battles several impressive and intimidating foes in a streamlined yet hardcore soulslike.
Black Myth: Wukong is currently available on PC and PS5. An Xbox Series X/S version has been delayed, with conflicting reports as to why. GameScience said a delay had been caused due to optimization issues with the platform, while another report claimed Sony had an exclusivity deal in place for consoles. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb later refuted this, having spoken to sources close to those involved.
