Black Myth: Wukong was originally meant to be released for the PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 on the 20th August, 2024. Unfortunately, the Xbox Series X/S version has been pushed back because developers Game Science aren’t happy with it as it’s still “undergoing optimization”.
You may have mistaken Black Myth: Wukong for a pure soul-like, and it does have elements of the genre, but it is more action-rpg and is based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature.
You will take control of the monkey god Wukong who’s armed with a staff and can combine different spells, abilities, weapons, and equipment to find a winning strategy against many enemies and bosses you will encounter in this tale of ancient Chinese mythology.
When will Black Myth: Wukong release for the Xbox Series X/S
“We are currently optimising the Xbox Series X/S version to meet our quality standards, so it won’t release simultaneously with the other platforms.” read a statement from Game Science in a press release sent to GameWatcher.
We don’t currently have a release date for the Xbox Series X/S version of Black Myth: Wukong, so it could be some time before we see it arrive on the platform. If it follows the same release pattern as what we saw with Baldur’s Gate 3, it may not be here until 2025.
Baldur’s Gate 3 took a long time because of a parity issue with split screen co-op on the Xbox Series S, but it doesn’t look like Black Myth: Wukong has any form of co-op or multiplayer for this to be a problem. The system requirements are quite high, so it could be related to the Xbox Series S not being able to run it as well if we had to speculate.
- Expected release date for Xbox Series X/S - Fall 2024.
Black Myth: Wukong is one of the most wishlisted games on Steam right now, so there’s a lot of expectation building around its launch later this month. We will have a full review for you before launch, so keep checking back to see what we think and if there’s an Xbox Series X/S release date revealed, we will keep you posted.
