Borderlands 3’s endgame is in for a serious shake-up when Mayhem 2.0 launches tomorrow. The new version of the mode spans 10 levels while also introducing more than 25 brand new modifiers.
Players will also no longer need to head back to Sanctuary III every time they want to change their Mayhem level. Instead, Mayhem 2.0 lets you select your desired level from a new tab in your Echo Device menu.
Borderlands 3 Mayhem 2.0 Mode
One thing that remains unchanged is players unlocking Mayhem 2.0 upon completing Borderlands 3’s main story.
The over 25 new modifiers that you’ll end up dealing with span four difficulty levels: easy, medium, hard and very hard.
If easy modifiers also include bonuses for the player character – Big Kick Energy increases weapon damage but also recoil and spread –, medium modifiers and onwards up the challenge.
Where the medium Floor is Lava modifier spawns pools of damaging lava underneath you if you stay in one spot for too long, the hard Drone Ranger modifier spawns healing drones that aid enemies.
While Mayhem 2.0 modifiers are selected at random, their number and difficulty is always the same for the system’s ten levels.
As you increase your Mayhem 2.0 levels, the quality of your loot also increases. Thus, a level 2 version of one gun will always be better than its level 1 counterpart.
Players can also farm 8 new legendary weapons that spawn from specific bosses when playing on level 6 and above.
In multiplayer, the host determines the Mayhem level of a game, while matchmaking will attempt to have you joining others of a similar level.
Borderlands 3’s Mayhem 2.0 system becomes available at the same time as its Revenge of the Cartels limited-time event, giving players two reasons to return to the title.
