Destiny 2 developer Bungie is working on multiple unannounced projects with support from parent company Sony.
Bungie was acquired by Sony in July 2022, feeding into the PlayStation maker’s desire to adopt a more multi-platform-oriented approach with its products. At the time, this shift was already underway, as multiple PlayStation exclusives began making their way to PC.
Bungie Senior Design Lead Tom Farnsworth noted on Twitter that “with the support of Sony we are working on a number of unannounced projects.”
Job listings on the developer’s website already hinted at this, revealing that the studio is also developing a new IP.
Since going independent in 2007 and ceasing work on Halo, Bungie has been entirely dedicated to its own Destiny franchise.
Farnsworth also noted that during his 11 years at the studio, it “completely changed how we develop games and do business, moving from strictly boxed products to live service games.”
Destiny 2 itself launched in 2017 as a more traditional product, mostly fueled by bigger or smaller expansions.
In the years since, it has not only shifted to a free-to-play business model for its base offering, but also tapped into more modern live service elements, weaving in seasons to keep players engaged between the launch of major expansions.
Destiny 2’s seventh expansion, Lightfall is currently slated to launch on February 28, 2023, with its eighth being slated to drop at some point in 2024.
Hopefully, this also means that it won’t be too long before we learn more about Bungie’s other unannounced projects.
