Chivalry 2’s four classes all specialize in killing, but you shouldn’t head into battle thinking that they’re all the same. Indeed, each one favors different playstyles and has access to its own selection of weaponry and abilities, depending on which subclass you choose.
Make no mistake, Chivalry 2’s 64-player battles can get quite chaotic and you’ll receive many hits to the head as you’re chasing victory. But it only takes a bit of practice (and some help from this guide) to learn how to differentiate between your archers and footmen, even when they’re both throwing chickens at you. Read on below to learn more about Chivalry 2’s classes, subclasses, and what makes each special.
It’s best to think of Chivalry 2 four classes as broad categories that encompass a general playstyle, while its subclasses specialize in certain niches within said playstyle. Each class has a total of three subclasses you can choose from. Unfortunately, only one is unlocked from the start, the remaining two becoming available once you’ve leveled up their parent class enough (level 4 and 7, respectively).
You level up a class by playing it during matches which, aside from the subclasses mentioned above, also unlocks new weapons that you can use in battle.
Archer
The go-to class if you’re looking to mostly break away from melee combat and fill your enemies with arrows, bolts, and javelins from afar. Has some melee options but they’re best used as a last resort. Can focus to zoom in on enemies and deploy a brazier that lights arrows on fire, a banner that heals allies, or a quiver to restock ammo, depending on the chosen subclass.

Subclass abilities include a sprint charge attack, setting up spike traps, and placing barricades.
