Publisher Tripwire Interactive and developer Torn Banner Studios have announced that medieval first-person slasher Chivalry 2 will simultaneously launch on PC and consoles this June, following last year’s delay.
Chivalry 2 pre-orders are also live. Regardless if you grab early the Deep Silver-published Day One retail edition or the game’s digital versions, both include the bonus Royal Zweihänder skin alongside access to the crossplay closed beta starting on March 26 and lasting through March 29.
Naturally, crossplay support will also be present in the game’s full version, so you’ll be able to decapitate opponents across multiple platforms. The title’s maps support up to 64 players and aim to recreate the chaos of medieval battlefields, taking you through villages, castles, and across ravaged fields.
Chivalry 2’s four classes are divided into 12 total subclasses, each with its own arsenal. If a slow, heavily armored knight wielding a large maul doesn’t quite fit your playstyle, you can opt for a more nimble melee fighter, poke enemies from afar with your polearm, or use your trusty Longbow to decimate enemies from afar.
Although mastering the rebuilt combat system and available combos will eat up a good chunk of your time, you’ll also need to use siege engines like ballistae, catapults, and battering rams to aid your team. One should also never underestimate the potency of bear traps or flaming chickens, both of which can prove to be very lethal weapons.
Several modes are also promised for launch, including Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, and Team Objective. Where the first two revolve around sticking sharp objects into your opponents, the latter provides a more directed experience: one team is tasked with pushing into enemy territory while completing objectives, while the other tries to stop that from happening.
Chivalry 2’s release date is slated for June 8, when the game launches on PC (via the Epic Games Store), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
