As we slowly approach Cities: Skylines 2’s launch, developer Colossal Order has begun showcasing gameplay footage as part of a series of developer diaries, but a lack of detailed building animations has left some players worried.
As much as the videos share valuable details about how the sequel approaches different facets of gameplay, eagle-eyed fans noticed buildings instantly being constructed or fading into view rather than being built in stages.
Cities: Skylines 2 Spawn-In Building Mechanics
The latter process, while potentially less efficient, enhances the sense of immersion and gives the impression of a city in active evolution. It appears its absence is actually due to the version of the game utilized to capture the footage we’ve seen up to this point.
“The videos have been recorded in a beta build, which does not have the finished spawn-in mechanics for buildings,” the developer’s official Twitter account replied to a user pointing out the lack of cranes in the city and asking about whether or not we can expect construction sequences for houses.
Another user inquired about whether service buildings such as police stations or hospitals might also benefit from “cinematic construction,” which led to the developer replying with the following: “Plopped buildings are constructed immediately.”
From what it seems, Cities: Skylines 2 may incorporate a combination of these two elements. However, the intricacy of the building spawn-in mechanics remains uncertain at this time.
We’re hoping it won’t be too long before we get to see them in action in one of the upcoming developer diaries or a different type of video.
Cities: Skylines 2 is set to launch on October 24, 2023, when it arrives on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
