What leaders will be available to play in Civilization 7? Civ 7 isn’t too far away now, and we’ve been learning more and more about it with each passing month. Ahead of its rousing February 11, 2025, launch on PC and consoles, we’re putting together a list with all leaders and civilizations revealed so far.
The stunning CG reveal trailer that hit during the Summer Game Fest 2024 event was more than enough to hype us up, but it was the gameplay reveal trailer that brought us juicy details and an even longer gameplay showcase afterwards. 4X veterans and more casual players alike have plenty to be excited about, as Firaxis never misses with a new mainline entry in the Civilization series.
Civilization 7 leaders
One of Civilization 7’s main twists on Sid Meier and Firaxis’ tried-and-tested formula is that you can pair up a leader with any starting civilization. They’re no longer linked together and allow all players and AI opponents to reshape their civs across the ages depending on what approach they’re choosing and the context of the ongoing match.
Moreover, some of the leaders featured in this seventh instalment will have multiple versions of themselves available, with distinct abilities and traits that reflect who they were at different points in their lives. With this new leader-civilization system, the possible permutations and builds (depending on which victory condition you’re chasing) are multiplying, and we can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
Below you’ll find all Civilization 7 leaders confirmed so far:
- Amina
- Ashoka
- Augustus
- Benjamin Franklin
- Confucius
- Hatshepsut
- Himiko
- Napoleon Bonaparte (Emperor & Revolutionary)
- Tecumseh
- Trung Trac
Civilization 7 civs
On top of the reworked leader system, in Civilization 7 there’s a three-act structure similar to that of Oxide Games’ Ara: History Untold. However, each age (Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern) allows players to choose a different civilization to adapt to the state of the world and the match as a whole, as we mentioned before.
Moreover, leaders may have the ability to unlock their respective civilizations in case you’re looking to make connections and synergies based on real history versus off-beat combinations. It’s all about flexibility and having the option to evolve, much like most real-life nations have done over time.
The game will reportedly launch with 31 different civilizations spread across all three ages/acts, and we already know most of Firaxis’ picks. Here’s the list so far:
Antiquity Age:
- Kingdom of Aksum
- Ancient Egypt
- Ancient Greece
- Han dynasty of China
- Khmer Empire
- Maurya Empire of India
- Maya civilization
- Roman Empire
- Mississippian
Exploration Age:
- Abbasid Caliphate
- Chola Empire of India
- Ming dynasty of China
- Mongol Empire
- Duchy of Normandy
- Shawnee people
- Songhai Empire
- Spanish Empire
Modern Age:
- Buganda
- France
- Japan
- Mughal India
- United States of America
Stay tuned for more updates as 2K and Firaxis reveal more information and new trailers for the upcoming 4X game, which is slated to launch on PC, PS4/5, Xbox consoles, and even Nintendo Switch simultaneously.
