Publisher Sega and developer Relic Entertainment today announced that Company of Heroes 3’s launch has been delayed by three months, pushing the highly-anticipated strategy game into 2023.
The decision to delay Company of Heroes 3’s was taken in order to allow the developer more time to work on polishing the game’s features and squashing bugs.
“Over the next 4-months we will not be adding any new features — the factions, units, modes, campaigns and modding tools for CoH3 are all set for launch,” the developer wrote in a blog post. “Now it’s just a matter of tuning and polishing everything to deliver on that core.”
The team behind the game also shared more detail regarding how community feedback obtained from the CoH-Development initiative helped change aspects of the game.
CoH3’s dynamic campaign map received a new supply system and UI improvements, while its AI was made more aggressive.
Shaders and effects were improved, providing a “stronger focus on visual grit and details during battles.”
This includes a vehicle weathering system, which sees armor and transports picking up dust and grime as battles draw on, something which I was pleasantly surprised by while previewing the game.
The game’s lighting system was also overhauled, while camera positioning and minimap readability were also improved.
Company of Heroes 3’s new release date has been locked down to February 23, 2023, when the game arrives on PC via Steam.
The third entry in the series is shaping up to be its biggest yet, featuring 2 different campaigns, 4 playable factions, 12 battlegroups, and over 120 units.
