Bending rules in Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t something that’s entirely out of the ordinary, but we’re willing to bet that nobody expected they could win a race and progress its associated sidequest by riding on top of an opponent’s car.
When Reddit user BattleScones was preparing to race during the Santo Domingo portion of Cyberpunk 2077’s The Beast In Me side job, they found it impossible to enter their designated car. With the countdown having already begun, a sudden moment of genius saw them hopping on top of an opponent’s vehicle.
With the laws of physics not applying to V, they stood firmly stuck to the top of that car as its driver remained focused on the road and the race. Meanwhile, utter chaos ensued around them with participants shooting at each other, flying through the air and getting stuck on bridges.
Being seemingly immune to bullets didn’t take away from the race’s intensity and, as the other participants lagged behind or had trouble figuring out where the road was, BattleScones was carried across the finish line by their new racing buddy, progressing the side quest.
The most insane thing that happened to me in my 80 hours... Sound on! from r/cyberpunkgame
While this was definitely hilarious to witness, being able to win a race by riding on top of an opponent’s car highlights Cyberpunk’s less than ideal technical state in which it launched.
While some issues like the tree glitch had easier solutions, it’s likely that we’ll have to wait until next year for NPCs and cars to stop teleporting around and the AI to cease falling off the side of the road.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Google Stadia, with next-gen upgrades slated to arrive next year for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
