KeelWorks - a two person studio - has announced CYGNI: All Guns Blazing, a twin-stick vertical scrolling shooter with cinematic flare. The team are self taught in game development but have previously worked as VFX artists at Pixar.
The studio’s impressive work with the Unreal Engine earned them an Epic MagaGrant to complete the project. CYGNI is aiming for a 2021 release.
CYGNI: All Guns Blazing Release Date
Rather than seeking to reinvent the wheel, the pair are looking to elevate the genre to deliver heightened sensations and a true next-gen experience. The basic gameplay looks to be sound, with your small fighter going up against waves of bio-mechanical aliens, switching between either shields or weapons as you play.
Key features from the announcement are;
- Next generation visuals, animation and special effects - A cinematic shoot'em up
- Choose where to route power on the fly switching between shields or weapons systems
- Collect energy to power up your ship and energise weaponry from hard-hitting nukes to inescapable vortex bombs
- Launch air to air and air-to-ground attacks as you traverse neon-lit metropolises, moon-like landscapes and outer space
- Gargantuan enemies in cinematically epic boss battles
- Full orchestral score and immersing sound design
CYGNI has no release date confirmed but as it is set for 2021, we’ve got a bit of a wait. Despite using Epic’s MegaGrant fund, the money came with no strings attached and KeelWorks is acting as its own publisher. This means it will be available on Steam.
