Red Hook Studios announced at the Triple-i Initiative showcase that Darkest Dungeon 2 players will get a new campaign game mode, Kingdoms, as a free content update later this year.
The Kingdoms mode focuses on a frantic race against time to locate and eliminate an evil threat before it can overrun and annihilate the Kingdom, which is comprised of a network of safe Inns.
Darkest Dungeon 2 Kingdoms Update Release Date
Players will venture across these unforgiving realms to collect resources and combat evil forces, safeguarding the world and its inns. Resources obtained during their expeditions can upgrade hero units and fortify the inns under their protection.
The addition of three new monster factions, namely The Coven, Beastmen, and Crimson Courtiers, all bring new challenges to face. Kingdom can be enjoyed as a standalone experience, separate from the game’s original Confessions mode.
“Kingdoms is an exciting project for us. If you look at our release history, no game or DLC has ever retread ground, and we’re proud to continue that tradition here.” said Chris Bourassa, Co-Founder, Creative Director at Red Hook Studios.
“This new mode will blend some of the permanence and roster management of the original Darkest Dungeon with the traversal and combat of Darkest Dungeon II. Best of all, this is a massive, FREE update to DDII, packing our flagship title with even more content and value for our players.”
The Kingdoms update for Darkest Dungeon 2 will be free and is slated for release in late 2024 on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
