Defiance 2050, the re-imagining of the MMO-shooter from Trion Worlds, is available now to play for free - but something that's not obvious is how the weapons increase in level.

There are several options for weapons - mods, enhancement, and a very slow level-up process. We've already delved into Weapon Enhancement in a separate guide, now here's how you Level Up weapons in Defiance 2050!

Defiance 2050 - How To Level Up Weapons

First off, here's our guide on Weapon Enhancement in Defiance 2050. That is altogether different.

In Defiance 2050, weapons level up as you use them but that's not the full story. Go to your Character page and check out the 'Stats' page. At the bottom of that page is a list of your level progress for each weapon, along with the bonus you get for Levelling Up - usually a Reload decrease.

This progress bar is universal for each weapon type, so using any Sniper Rifle will increase your level progress.

However, right now (check out the picture above for what several hours of play looks like) you may think these progress bars are broken. They are not bugged or broken! They just move very, very slowly at the start!

Levelling up Weapons is tied to how much damage they cause. At the beginning of the game, you are not causing much damage with any weapon, and so the level progress bar barely moves!

Basically, do not worry about trying to level up weapons until much later in the game. When you get weapons that cause 100,000+ damage, THAT is when the Weapon Level Progress Bar will activate! Then you can level weapons up to Level 75!

So don't really worry about it until you're quite high level. It's only meant for late-game content, when you actually need it!
