Diablo IV, the worst-kept secret in the games industry, has been revealed at last at Blizzcon - and while it's still a long way away, we already know a fair bit about the game. As a game all about collecting loot, however, what do we know about the Diablo 4 Loot system?
The Loot system in Diablo III was a bit messed up thanks to the Auction House, so will there be anything like that in Diablo IV? What are Diablo 4 Mythic items, and why are they the best loot to get? How will the loot work? Let's look.
How does the Diablo 4 Loot system work?
In Diablo III the Loot system was a bit screwed up towards the end of the game, with different Legendary items being dropped all over the place and the Auction House breaking everything. With Diablo IV, Blizzard is seeking to change all that.
The biggest change is the introduction of different tiers for the same items - so it's possible to get more powerful versions of the same items. The example Blizzard gave was an Amulet - at normal it just has a slight boost, but Magic and Rare versions have higher stats and probably some Class-specific boosts. If you kill a tougher monster, you can get better loot as usual - but it might be an easier choice to replace an item with another item, as it's obvious you can exchange a Normal Amulet for a Rare Amulet, with no detriment to your character.
The next part of the Loot system is the re-introduction of the top-tier of items, even above Legendary - Mythic items, which are basically Exotics. Mythic items not only have massively increased stats, but they can also have multiple Legendary passive effects attached. They will be highly sought after - but you can only equip one Mythic item at a time.
Legendary sets will still be available in Diablo IV, but they'll be less of a requirement than they are in Diablo III - so you'll have a bit more freedom with customization, and mix-and-matching item sets. Prefixes and affixes for gear are returning, as are Runes and Rune Words from Diablo II - which can be embedded in gear.
The slots available included helmet, chest, hands, legs, neck, two rings, and shoes. Most characters have two slots for weapons, one per hand, with the exception of the Barbarian - who gets four! You'll want to get the best loot specific to each Class of course, but we won't know the best loot until Diablo IV comes out - whenever that is.
