Diablo 4’s endgame opens up a lot of possibilities to both gain better gear and earn exclusive rewards. One way to do the latter is by getting the rather elusive Red Dust currency, which you won’t find dropping from mobs outside of a few special areas of the map.
Diablo 4’s Red Dust currency is tied to the Fields of Hatred, zones dedicated to PvP. At launch, you’ll find two of them. One waits in southern Kehjistan, while another can be found in the western Dry Steppes. You can spot them thanks to their darker red color and Whisper icons clearly labeled as PvP.
Diablo 4 Red Dust Rewards
Getting your hands on Diablo 4’s Red Dust requires a bit of effort. The process starts with heading over to one of the Fields of Hatred.
Once there, begin killing enemies, completing Whispers, or eliminating other players. Sooner or later, you’ll notice they drop Seeds of Hatred. You’ll want to pick as many as possible since these are the items you convert into Red Dust.
Doing so involves reaching an Altar of Extraction. Several wait in the Fields of Hatred, marked on the map with a crystal that has a circle surrounding its base.
Interacting with an Altar of Extraction triggers a ritual that converts Seeds of Hatred to Red Dust. The catch here is that, aside from monsters, you’ll likely also have to face other players, since everyone in the area can see when a ritual is underway.
Dying in the Fields of Hatred leads to losing all the Seeds of Hatred you carry and there doesn’t seem to be a way to deposit them anywhere.
Should you complete the ritual while still clinging to life, the seeds end up converted to Red Dust, which you can no longer lose.
Diablo 4’s Red Dust currency can be used to purchase different rewards from vendors in towns found in both Fields of Hatred.
You can use it to gamble for gear, similar to Obols, purchase cosmetic items for both your character and horse, or obtain scrolls that you can use within the Fields of Hatred.
To keep track of how much of the currency you have left, simply open your character screen, go to the Materials & Stats tab, and look at the final entry in the Currency section.
That is what we know so far about Diablo 4’s Red Dust currency and the rewards you can purchase with it.
