Diablo 4’s open beta gave us a promising first look at the highly-anticipated hack and slash RPG, showcasing how it taps into the franchise’s lengthy history. At the same time, the lack of a Tab overlay map stood out like a sore thumb for many players.
If you count among those who were hoping to see the feature added at launch, you’ll want to know that it looks unlikely to happen. Blizzard has confirmed that it is not currently considering implementing it.
Diablo 4 Tab Overlay Map
The news was shared by Diablo General Manager Rod Fergusson, who replied to a tweet asking about the potential addition of a Tab overlay map in Diablo IV with the following: “No plans at the moment.”
This could mean that we won’t see the feature added in time for the game’s launch, which is rather disappointing.
The beta had a rather detailed map you could bring up at any time to check your location in Diablo IV’s large open world.
The main issue was that it covered the entire screen, rendering it impossible to both see your position and move your character, something you could do in the older games in the series.
Fergusson’s reply clearly indicates that the team behind the game is focusing on other things at the moment, including several changes based on player feedback after the beta.
It is worth keeping in mind that he did not completely rule out the future addition of a Diablo IV Tab overlay map.
It’s difficult to gauge what “at the moment” exactly means, but if the feature won’t be available at release, there’s still a chance for it to be added in a post-launch update further down the line.
Diablo IV is steadily approaching its June 6 launch, when it is set to arrive on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4.
