Publisher and developer Gameloft has unveiled Disney Dreamlight Valley as its upcoming free-to-play life-sim adventure game, sharing the first details about its release date and how it plays. In it, players journey alongside popular Disney and Pixar characters to undo the effects of an event called the Forgetting and bring back magic to the eponymous land.
Watching its reveal trailer is one way to get your daily dose of nostalgia, but the lack of a price of entry alongside its colorful, approachable art style should draw the attention of younger gamers who may not be familiar with all of the characters. Here is everything we know about Disney Dreamlight Valley, including details about its release date, story, gameplay, and more.
Disney Dreamlight Valley Release Date
Disney Dreamlight Valley’s early access release date is slated to occur on September 6, 2022. This is when players who purchase a Founder’s Pack or are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass will get access to an initial version of the game, having the opportunity to provide feedback that may influence its development.
Disney Dreamlight Valley’s full version is expected to release at some point in 2023, depending on how quickly development progresses.
Disney Dreamlight Valley Story
Story-wise, Dreamlight Valley used to be an idyllic place where Disney and Pixar characters lived in harmony, at least until an event called the Forgetting happened. As Night Thorns grew across the land, they sought refuge inside the Dream Castle.
Players step in to free the Dream Castle of the Forgetting’s influence and restore magic to the valley, before setting off across different realms. The game features “a multitude of unique individualized story arcs” which you’ll get to see as you befriend its cast of characters.
Disney Dreamlight Valley Gameplay
Disney Dreamlight Valley is described as a “hybrid between a life-sim and an adventure game rich with quests, exploration, and engaging activities” by the developer.
Its early access version will feature the traditional elements of the former genre alongside a narrative-driven solo campaign with dedicated story arcs for different characters.
Its village sandbox lets you befriend Disney and Pixar characters and you’ll also be able to try your hand at gardening, cooking, and fishing along with the likes of WALL-E, Remy, and Goofy. The different realms you visit each have their unique challenges and puzzles that you’ll need to solve.
As you play, you’ll collect resources that you can use to craft your very own home and neighborhood, as part of your efforts to rebuild the Valley. In addition, you’ll also be able to customize your avatar with a variety of different outfits.
Although the game will be continuously updated with new content while in early access and beyond it does support offline play.
