Dune: Spice Wars has finally entered early access, giving players a shot at spreading their influence across Arakkis and controlling its valuable resources. More than two decades have passed since the last strategy game set in Frank Herbert’s universe, which likely makes some of the fans picking up Shiro Games’ newest title curious about whether or not multiplayer is available straight away.
As much as the AI can provide a great environment to learn the ropes and get used to the four different factions, more competitively-minded players would rather fight for control of Arakkis against human opponents. Dune: Spice Wars’ multiplayer mode will eventually let everyone do just that, bu we’ll all have to wait a while before that happens.
Dune: Spice Wars Multiplayer
Although Dune: Spice Wars was confirmed to get multiplayer during its early access stay since it was officially announced, the mode wasn’t available at launch. If you started the game, its option in the main menu was greyed out.
While that might have been disappointing, developer Shiro Games clarified its approach to implementing the mode.

“As stated elsewhere, Multiplayer is coming, it just won’t be in the game at launch,” the developer said in a Steam discussions thread discussing the feature’s absence.
“The first period of Early Access will be geared towards developing the groundwork of the game alongside our community, to make sure that the core gameplay and mechanics are as polished as possible and can be translated to a multiplayer environment.”
Once the core gameplay is in a good place, the developer will implement Dune: Spice Wars’ multiplayer mode and work alongside fans to ensure it meets their expectations.
It then later revealed, during 2022’s PC Gaming Show, that Dune: Spice Wars’ multiplayer update was set to arrive at some point in June. The mode launched on June 20, supporting 2v2 and free for all matches for up to 4 players.
