In what has become tradition, space sim Elite Dangerous players got a taste of what they can look forward to in the game’s upcoming September and December updates today during Lavecon 2019.
Frontier Developments revealed that a new in-ship flight tutorial, currency, but also the gargantuan Fleet Carrier ship will be making their way to Elite Dangerous by the end of the year.
Elite Dangerous September and December Updates
Elite Dangerous’ September update continues the developer’s effort of accomodating newer players to what can prove to be a rather overwhelming experience. To this extent, the new in-ship flight tutorial will be introduced as “a whole new starting experience right from the cockpit of a Commander’s first ship”. Under the guidance of a Pilots Federation flight instructor, players will be taught the following: basic flight controls and scanning, supercruise and navigation, a combat exercise around a megaship, as well as completing a first Hyperspace Jump and docking at a Starport.
The in-ship tutorial comes with voice-overs for all supported languages and will also be available to experienced players in the Training Section found on the right-hand panel of their cockpit. The September update will also rework the console-only Frontier Points currency into a new one called Arx while also bringing them to PC. Arx can either be purchased using real money or obtained from in-game activities. It can then be spent on paint jobs, ship kits, bobbleheads and other items. More information can be found in the Arx FAQ over on the game’s website.
Lastly, while Elite Dangerous’ December update wasn’t painstainkingly detailed just yet, we did get to see a glimpse of the new Fleet Carrier ship. It’s quite a massive, impressive beast, and you can check the teaser just below.
