Publisher Sega and developer Amplitude Studios today announced their decision to delay Endless Dungeon, their upcoming rogue-lite tactical action game, until October. The title was previously intended to release on May 18.
The developer aims to use the five extra months to further polish Endless Dungeon, squash bugs, and improve key aspects of the game based on player feedback from past testing phases.
Endless Dungeon Delayed
Here is a breakdown of what the team behind the game is currently targeting, as detailed in the blog post announcing the delay.
- Meta Progression: in the past OpenDev “Final Rodeo” there was a feeling of randomness when unlocking it, now we are moving to a more player-driven unlock scheme, so it feels more rewarding to players.
- Economy: we are tweaking the economy in the game slightly. We want the 3 resources (science, food, industry) to all feel important to avoid the feeling that “industry is king”. The scarcity of resources is important so that your decision of what to invest in feels impactful.
- Balancing in general: there are a lot of elements in the game (beverages, heroes, upgrades, monsters, etc.), that require a lot of feedback, which is why the playtest with the community is essential.
- And other things, such as more variety in the districts, improving the multiplayer, onboarding new players, etc.
To make Endless Dungeon’s delay a bit more bearable, the developer has confirmed that anyone who pre-orders the game and early buyers will receive 3 additional skins at launch.
The Closed Beta unlocked by purchasing the Last Wish Edition is still planned to take place, but will likely happen at some point closer to September.
A closed playtest is currently underway for players who participated in previous OpenDevs. More spots will become available in the future and the developer will announce when that happens on the game’s blogs and social media.
Endless Dungeon is now slated to launch on October 19, 2023, when it arrives on PC, Xbox X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4. A release date for its Nintendo Switch version will be announced at a later point in time.
