Learning how to get linen in Enshrouded plays a part in mastering its crafting system and giving yourself the tools you need to perform longer expeditions into the unknown.
As opposed to other crafting materials present in the game, you won’t be able to find linen naturally as you explore the realm of Embervale. Instead, you’ll have to craft it yourself, which is a process that isn’t available to you at the start of the game.
How to Get Linen in Enshrouded
Your first step towards figuring out how to get linen in Enshrouded involves freeing the Hunter NPC and making sure she has the proper shelter once summoned in your base.
Afterwards, you’ll want to progress through her quest chain until you have to retrieve her Hand Spindle. This task leads you to the Revelwoods biome, which you cannot reach until you upgrade your Altar to Level 3, enabling you to traverse the deadlier fog blocking your way.
The quest itself requires you to retrieve the spindle from inside a cave that happens to be full of spiders. If the first room is fairly easily dealt with, provided you’re patient, once you burn the web blocking the area forward and arrive at the second, much bigger room, things get a bit trickier.
As soon as you enter it, you’ll spot the hunter’s tent right in front of you. Its location is also marked with two orange glows depicting interactable objects.
Spiders, however, patrol the area between you and the item. To make matters worse, more will also spawn after you reach it.
Depending on your gear, build, and level, sprinting over there, quickly grabbing the hand spindle, and rushing out can be a quick and viable strategy. Just make sure you have a free slot in your inventory and enough stamina.
If you’re in the mood for a fight, you could, of course, also clear the room.
Once recovered and placed near the NPC, the Hunter’s Hand Spindle works in a similar way to the Alchemist’s Mortar, providing access to additional recipes, one of which enables you to get linen in Enshrouded.
Using the device, you can convert two flax flowers – which you should start seeing more of as you venture towards and into the Revelwoods – into one piece of linen. It’s a good idea to save some of the former and plant them in a free seedbed to obtain seedlings, provided you have saved the Farmer NPC.
You can then plant the seedlings in the ground around your base, ensuring a steady supply of the plant without having to constantly track down its locations around Embervale.
As far as its uses go, Enshrouded’s linen is required to craft the medium backpack at the Hunter, which increases the size of your inventory. You’ll also need it for other craftables, including the Marksman armor set and the big fur rug carpet item.
