Everspace 2 was revealed through an announcement trailer today, during Gamescom 2019’s Open Night Live event. The sequel sees indie developer Rockfish Games moving away from the original’s roguelike roots in order to tackle open world gameplay.
While it will remain a space shooter at its core, Everspace 2 will also feature “classic RPG elements and persistent player progression, as well as many more player ships and significantly enhanced storytelling.”.
Everspace 2 Open World
The Everspace 2 announcement trailer was made using footage from the pre-alpha version of the game and shows that both the gorgeous visuals of the original and its explosive dogfights are still there.
“With EVERSPACE™ 2, we are making a big leap towards an open world space shooter, but will still remain true to our DNA and offer exactly what our fans love: a beautiful fantastic sci-fi world paired with uncompromising space action that gets down to business right away.”, said Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of Rockfish Games
Everspace 2 is set to release on Steam Early Access in late 2020, its full launch being scheduled for the end of 2021 when the game will arrive on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
