Wube Software has announced that Factorio’s upcoming Space Age Expansion and a free 2.0 upgrade will be released in October. The expansion will be priced at $35.00, which matches the current price of the base game on Steam. This expansion promises to bring significant new content with five new planets, each playing differently.
Factorio is a factory-automating base-building hit, and the upcoming Space Age Expansion has been in development for several years now, so it’s exciting to hear about all the new content it will add for the price of the base game.
What's the Factorio 2.0 and Space Age Expansion Release Date?
Factorio 2.0 and the Space Age Expansion will be released on the 21st of October, 2024 for the PC via Steam. It will be priced at $35.00.
“The reasoning for this date is that it will give us enough time after summer vacations to polish the release, while also leaving enough time afterwards if we need to do bugfix patches before the Christmas holidays.” said Wube Software in a press release sent to us in late August.
Factorio's Space Age Expansion Planets and Space Platforms
Space Age takes you across the solar system, visiting other planets after launching rockets into space. You can build space platforms that will need to be defended from asteroids, which you can harvest resources from using the new operational platforms, allowing you to send precious materials between planets.
- Build defenses to shoot down incoming asteroids which threaten to smash your platform.
- Catch asteroid chunks, crush them and process them into thruster fuel and turret ammunition.
- Use the Platform hub and Cargo bays to shuttle cargo between planets.
Planet Vulcanus
Blazing volcanic mountains, towering geological formations, plains covered in ash, and dense yellow sulfuric fog that burns your lungs and stings your eyes.
- Extract and refine tough unbreakable Tungsten to craft big mining drills and foundries.
- Pull lava from the pits to produce an abundance of molten iron and copper.
- Research advanced metallurgic technologies to build an industrial forge-world.
Planet Fulgora
A lifeless, desolate landscape stretches before you. The thin air is frigid but bone dry, and a distant sun flickers faintly in the dull purple sky. Wispy clouds race overhead as a fierce gale kicks up sand that grates against your armor.
- Protect yourself from the nightly lightning storms, harness their unrelenting power for your own electricity needs.
- Reclaim the high-tech scraps and ruins of a long-forgotten civilization and recycle them into usable products.
- Unlock the advanced electromagnetic and superconducting powers of Holmium.
Planet Gleba
A vibrant, multi-colored swampy landscape is shrouded in a light mist. The air is thick and humid, filled with the muffled cries of concealed animals in the distance.
- Discover exotic plants, cultivate and harvest their fruits with Agriculture towers.
- Cook, crush, and process your produce before they rot and turn to spoilage.
- Venture into a new realm of biochemical engineering.
5th Planet
So far, this Planet is shrouded in mystery. It’s the furthest planet from the sun so it’s dark and cold. We are eager to learn more about it.
Czech composer Petr Wajsar is creating a new soundtrack where each planet features unique music, giving them their own atmosphere and distinct feel.
