Fallout 76 players have started getting banned from playing the game due to using mods, as it turns out. While it was always clear that modding would be a tricky subject in a multiplayer-only experience, few had hoped that Bethesda would start kicking people out before introducing private servers.
Fallout 76 mod bans may well only just be heating up, too, and the situation is going to be rather tense for the decidedly uncertain future of this Fallout offshoot.
According to a recent Reddit post, Bethesda are now actively banning those players who have chosen to try and mod Fallout 76 so far. Users have supposedly been banned for using mods as innocuous as ultrawide resolution fixes and user interface helpers.
While Bethesda have announced that there will be consequences for cheating in Fallout 76, it would seem that bans are being handed willy-nilly, which is most worrying for a franchise that has been as reliant on modding over the last decade or so as Fallout has been.
The issue was also raised in a recent video by the Youtuber Juicehead, who provided a substantial overview of what's been going on with Fallout 76 mod bans as of late. Of course, there's no reason for panic just yet, as it is entirely possible that Bethesda might be testing some new, overzealous anti-cheat software, and that the supposedly falsely banned player accounts will be reinstated soon.
Stay tuned for more as the situation develops.
