The PSVR 2’s roster of games is pretty healthy so far, with a large number of VR hits past and present available to play. However, there are still some gaps that need to be filled.
Gems such as Astro Bot, Vader Immortal, Blood & Truth, Superhot, Hitman 3, and Wipeout Omega Collection have yet to make the jump from PSVR to PSVR 2. Meanwhile, VR hits like Half-Life: Alyx remain a pipe dream on PlayStation VR.
But one game has its fans particularly eager for a PSVR 2 port, and that is Mojang’s iconic title, Minecraft.
PSVR 2 Version of Minecraft
Minecraft’s VR conversion hit PSVR late in the hardware’s life when it was announced as a free upgrade for existing Minecraft PS4 players in September of 2020. It was pretty well received, but the hardware’s limitations left it short of its full potential.
This is exactly why it would be a hot property on PSVR 2 with its technical superiority and more intuitive controls.
Unfortunately, there’s no word on a PSVR 2 upgrade just yet despite the clamor for it. What’s particularly concerning is Mojang’s parent company Microsoft is embroiled in a bitter war of words and studios with Sony regarding the farmer’s attempted acquisition of Activision. The bad blood could well put any hopes of Minecraft on PSVR 2 to bed.
Mojang also hasn’t yet updated Minecraft for modern consoles, which would also be necessary for a PSVR 2 version to exist. That at least might have more chance of happening. Hopefully, cooler, more logical business heads will prevail either way.
