Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends has thus far steered clear of introducing Titans, maintaining its infantry focus. Fortnite, on the other hand, has just revealed the addition of a titan-like mech for its upcoming season.
While it’s only a matter of time before Fortnite’s two-player titan-like mech enters the fray, developer Respawn Entertainment has made it clear that Apex Legends Titans are rather unlikely to happen any time soon.
Apex Legends Titans
“We prototyped [Titans] for like nine months during development, and we couldn’t get it to work well. Titans were created back in the day as a power item. As a sense of, ‘I am now a badass, don’t mess with me.’ That fantasy fulfillment is destroyed immediately in battle royale once you’ve balanced them to a point where they don’t ruin battle royale.”, Respawn executive producer Drew McCoy told Game Informer.
“We could never pull enough levers – how you get it, how strong it is, how fast it is, how big it is, what kind of weapons it has, when do you have it – all that kind of stuff. So I think for now, titans are just not a thing. We’re no longer considering it.”, he continued.
Naturally, Fortnite and Apex Legends are two very different battle royale experiences and, while the former has, perhaps, more freedom with its additions, the lack of Titans in Apex Legends is sure to disappoint at least some fans.
Fortnite’s titan-like mech, boasts serious firepower, being able to fire flurries of rockets and crush buildings under its weight. While we wait for Fortnite’s new season to kick in, check out our guide on Deathrun codes.
