When was the last time a solid god-game was released? Can't remember? Neither can we. That's why the straightforwardly-titled Godhoodis coming at just the right time for those of us who like that sort of gameplay.
Godhood is set in a vibrant, primal world whose deities had just been born, and with players understandably taking control over one of them immediately thereafter. Coming from the creators of Reus, there is a certain amount of pedigree already present here, and the expectations are consequently rather high.
Upon taking control over their deity, players have to make a selection of choices which, in turn, dictate what sort of religion theirs will be.They can select from a variety of virtues and vices for their followers to worship, and then this will affect what sort of monuments, prophets and general gameplay options spring from one such religion.
Naturally, players themselves won't be able to control their believers, but influencing and directing them will be possible in a variety of different ways, ranging from a gentle nudge all the way to an ample application of force. Godhood promises to go into a fair bit of detail when it comes to religious sacraments, too, though there hasn't been much word on this for now.
Developers cite a powerful gameplay simulation system as the driving force behind the game's substantial replayability, and due to the game's nature, players will be encouraged to experiment and come up with various interesting solutions to whatever problems might be presented. Godhood is currently set for release sometime in 2019.
