Publisher Sega and developer Creative Assembly today revealed a 9-minute video giving us a better sense of how Total War: Warhammer 3’s siege battles play out. In it, the armies of Grand Cathay defend The Great Bastion from a horde of Tzeentch’s daemons.
Described as “a titanic, nigh-impenetrable wall imbued with ancient magic that runs the length of the Celestial Dragon Empire’s northern border with the hostile Chaos Wastes,” The Great Bastion is a unique settlement that, during siege battles, gives defenders three gates to which they can retreat.
Today’s 9-minute video hovers over the two armies’ rosters, reinforcing Grand Cathay’s status as a defensive powerhouse with a variety of units. Tzeentch’s armies rely more on spellcasters and flying units but shouldn’t be treated lightly, as they easily break through The Grand Bastion’s first gate.
Total War: Warhammer 3’s reworked siege battles do, however, give defenders additional tools to work with, in the shape of fortifications that can be constructed and relocated to slow down the enemy’s advance.
The video also shows a few of the spells that Miao Ying and Kairos Fateweaver can use, including ones that deal direct damage, buff units, and counter the enemy’s buffs. Visually, The Grand Bastion looks quite impressive, too, which could signal that sieges might not lose their charm as quickly as they did in the series’ previous entries.
