Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Blackbird Interactive today announced that spaceship salvaging game Hardspace: Shipbreaker is bound to leave Early Access next month, after almost two years of receiving regular updates.
Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a bit of an unusual title, putting players in the space shoes of an employee of LYNX Megacorporation who must salvage spaceships in order to pay back a rather astronomical debt.
Whether you’re tackling small transport ships or large freighters, the game throws true-to-life zero-g physics your way, while giving you lots of freedom in terms of how you dismantle the husks of decommissioned vessels.
Figuring out how to cut off troublesome segments of ships can be quite satisfying but getting there will very possibly involve some rather explosive trial and error that may or may not end up with your body being repeatedly vaporized.
Hardspace: Shipbreaker’s campaign focuses on your efforts to repay the aforementioned debt while gradually uncovering more about the corporation’s intentions and just how trustworthy your coworkers are.
As you successfully break ships apart, you’ll upgrade your tools, move on to more valuable targets, and recover valuable but hazardous materials that your employer is interested in.
Procedural elements further improve the sandbox experience, making each ship feel different from the one before it.
Hardspace: Shipbreaker’s R.A.C.E game mode then allows you to tackle challenges and compete against other players vying for the top spot on the leaderboards, while Freeplay offers a more relaxing take on dismantling spaceships.
Hardspace: Shipbreaker is set to leave early access on May 24, when it will be available on PC via Fanatical and other major storefronts, alongside PC Game Pass. A console version is planned to launch at a later date.
We were quite impressed with its initial release and you can read our full thoughts on it in ourearly access review.
