Update: Hogwarts Legacy has received a provisional PEGI 16 age rating. Here’s how it’s defined on the Pan-European Game Information website:
“This rating is applied once the depiction of violence (or sexual activity) reaches a stage that looks the same as would be expected in real life. The use of bad language in games with a PEGI 16 rating can be more extreme, while games of chance, and the use of tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs can also be present.”
Original: Publisher Warner Bros. has officially unveiled Hogwarts Legacy as its long-rumored Harry Potter RPG during yesterday’s PS5 showcase event.
Details about it have leaked multiple times, including earlier in June, but we now have official confirmation that Hogwarts Legacy will, indeed, launch next year.
Developed by Avalanche Software – not to be confused with Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios –, Hogwarts legacy is an open-world RPG set in the late 1800s, well before the events of the Harry Potter movies.
Harry Potter RPG Hogwarts Legacy Coming To PC
“Embark on a journey through familiar and new locations as you explore and discover fantastic beasts, customize your character and craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents, and become the wizard you want to be.” reads the description on the game’s official website.
Hogwarts Legacy puts you in the shoes of a student of magic with the ability to not only perceive but also master Ancient Magic.
Players will get to choose between protecting its secret or tapping into the sinister powers to which it opens the way.
The announcement trailer – which you can watch below – showcased some of the game’s locations, including Hogwarts itself, as well as a handful of strange creatures that you’ll befriend or battle.
Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled for a 2022 launch and headed to PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4. It will be published by Portkey Games, a Warner Bros. label dedicated to new video games set in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.
