Bethesda’s new Indiana Jones game announcement came out of nowhere, kicking off 2021 with awesome news for fans of the franchise. Long underserved in the gaming space, everyone is now wondering what the title’s PC release date is, what story it will tell and other similar questions.
Even with details as sparse as they are, we’ve dug around and put together this Indiana Jones game FAQ which aims to answer questions about its release date, Xbox Game Pass availability and more, based on either official reveals or our own speculation, given what we currently know.
Indiana Jones Game PC Release Date
Bethesda’s surprise announcement didn’t reveal a whole lot about the upcoming Indiana Jones game but we do know that its PC release date isn’t planned for the near future. “It’ll be some time before we have more to reveal,” the publisher said on Twitter. Based on this and the lack of other hints, we expect to see it launch at some point in 2022 at the earliest.
Of course, we could also be in for a longer wait, depending on the size of the project. Players had to wait for more than three years between MachineGames’ Wolfenstein reboot and its direct sequel (not counting The Old Blood), so we could very well see a repeat of that.
Indiana Jones Game PC Xbox Game Pass
In September 2020, Microsoft announced its acquisition of ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent company. Now under Microsoft’s umbrella, we expect the new Indiana Jones game to arrive on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
While no official announcement was made in this sense and the service could develop in unexpected ways over time, Microsoft is clearly paying special attention to Game Pass. Titles like Sea of Thieves, State of Decay and Gears 5 were available through the subscription service at launch. Provided this trend continues, it very well might also be the case for Indiana Jones.
Indiana Jones Game Story and Gameplay
Developer MachineGames is known for its work on the rebooted Wolfenstein series which is exclusively comprised of first-person shooters. While this doesn’t automatically pin the new Indiana Jones game as an FPS, it could point at the approach the studio will take while developing it. Of course, a new IP also provides an opportunity to branch out to new territory, like a third-person action-adventure game.
As far as the upcoming Indiana Jones game’s story is concerned, all we know at the moment is that the title “will tell a wholly original, standalone tale set at the height of the career of the famed adventurer.”
We’ll be on the lookout over the coming months and update this article with any new details regarding Bethesda and MachineGames’ new Indiana Jones game as soon as we learn more.
