Jon Shafer’s At The Gates has been floating around for quite a while now, trapped in a state of relative uncertainty. Initially meant to release all the way back in 2014, it had its own Kickstarter and got delayed several times. That period of uncertainty is over, as the strategy game is finally set to launch on January 23, 2019.
A 4X grand strategy title that incorporates survival and rogue-like elements, it will be available on Steam, as well as its own website.
“You are a Dark Age lord. Your destiny is to build a kingdom in the shadow of the crumbling Roman Empire. Explore the dangerous landscape around you, harvest its resources, and build a mighty economic and military machine. Your clans have their own personalities and desires, so carefully consider how you use them.”, the blurb on its Steam Store page reads.
Jon Shafer’s At The Gates boasts an evolving map, where seasons and weather alter the landscape around you. A given example was that of a river turning from natural barrier during summer to highway during winter. Character management will also play a part, with clans having specific traits and desires.
Lastly, harsh winters and limited resources will push you into hunting for new sources of sustenance, while matches come with “new challenges and opportunities”. Check out Jon Shafer’s At The Gates’ latest trailer below.
