League of Legends today revealed its next champion as skirmisher assassin hybrid Yone, who will join the MOBA’s sizeable character roster in Patch 10.16.
Teased for a good while now, and revealed in a 10-minute cinematic which you can watch below, League of Legends’ Yone is Yasuo’s half-brother. While fans will remember him dead, Yone returns to the world of the living after defeating an azakana – a minor demon that preys on negative emotions – in the spirit world, which he now holds trapped in a mask that won’t leave his face, giving him the ability to harness the demon’s powers.
Wielding two swords, Yone is a melee champion that was “originally designed to be a skirmisher”.
League of Legends Yone
“His human blade deals physical damage and his azakana sword deals magic damage, which gives Yone a mixed damage profile, letting him go toe-to-toe with even the beefiest of bois”, the developer revealed in the latest Champion Insights article.
Yone’s E and ultimate abilities, however, play more like those belonging to an assassin which makes Yone a hybrid whose combat style features a bit of both. Here is his full set of abilities:
League of Legends Yone Abilities
Passive - Way of the Hunter
- Yone uses two blades, causing every second attack to deal more magic damage. His critical strike chance is also doubled, but his critical strikes deal reduced damage.
Q - Mortal Steel
- Yone thrusts forward, dealing physical damage to opponents. On hit, he gains a stack of Gathering Storm. At two stacks, Yone can dash forward with a wave that makes enemies airborne.
W - Spirit Cleave
- Yone cleaves forward in a massive arc, dealing a portion of the target's maximum health. After successfully hitting an enemy, Yone also gains a temporary shield. The shield's power increases per champion struck.
E - Soul Unbound
- Yone can enter his Spirit Form, gaining movement speed and leaving his body behind. When Yone's Spirit Form expires, he'll snap back into his body and deal a percentage of all the damage he dealt while in Spirit Form.
R - Fate Sealed
- Yone strikes all enemies in his path, blinking behind the last enemy hit and knocking everyone airborne towards him.
Overall, Yone is meant as a more aggressive champion whose E is capable of creating a “high pressure situation”.
“He (sic) spirit form takes full damage, and is forcibly snapped back to his body after a short time. So if he doesn’t get the kill, they will almost certainly escape”, Lead Gameplay Designer Mark Yetter explains.
League of Legends’ Patch 10.16 is already in testing on the PBE. We expect Yone to become available there in the coming days.
Yone joins League of Legends’ roster shortly after Lillia, the MOBA’s newest jungler, became playable in Patch 10.15.
