2.21 is a new studio that’s based in Paris, France, and was set up by Little Big Adventure creator Didier Chanfray. The team’s first project will be to bring back the classic franchise with Little Big Adventure 3, and co-creator Frédérick Raynal will be returning, who’s known for the Alone in the Dark series.
In an announcement post published last year it revealed plans to create the third game in the series, although at the time development hadn’t yet started, we did learn that there are plans to release it on PC and consoles.
Little Big Adventure 3 - A classic from the past returns
Little Big Adventure was released in 1994 as an action-adventure game set on a fictional planet called Twinsun, which is being ruled by a tyrant called Dr FunFrock, and the playable hero Twinsen has been imprisoned in an asylum due to the prophetic end of the world dreams he’s having about the dystopian planet.
Little Big Adventure had reached over 500,000 copies sold by 1999, and also received a sequel in 1997 called Little Big Adventure 2: Twinsen’s Odyssey.
The team at 2.21 has since revealed that production has now started, and it’s seeking to work with a publisher soon.
We remember both games very fondly, but the great news is that you can actually pick them both up on Steam for fairly cheap, with the first game being released as an Enhanced Edition by Dotemu. If you want a bit of a blast from the past, it might be worth taking a look.
We’re probably going to be waiting a long time before we even see some gameplay from Little Big Adventure 3, but it’s great to hear that Didier Chanfray and Frédérick Raynal are back at the helm. Hopefully, we can also see something for Alone in the Dark in the future, right?
