Moons of Madness has a title that's immediately going to ring a bell or two for horror literature aficionados. This Lovecraftian horror is going to set players loose on Mars itself, and things aren't looking good, plot-wise.
According to Funcom, who are owners of the Secret World IP, Moons of Madness is going to be using the wealth of lore that's already available as part of Secret World, and are attempting to showcase it in a setting that's a far cry from their previous endeavours.
Moons of Madness Release Date
A clear throwback to Lovecraft's own Mountains of Madness, Moons will put players in the shoes of a technician stationed at a clandestine research outpost stationed on Mars. Though his job there is to seek out traces of intelligent life, chances are that the protagonist, Shane Newehart, won't get to keep the lights on until his replacement team arrives.
The game will set players loose in a fully-functioning Mars base that "uses non-fiction elements to immerse players in a believable setting," which is going to come in handy since the game isn't set in that far of a future. Players will have to explore Mars and overcome obstacles using various computers, rovers, solar panels, and other crucial systems, only to eventually delve into something that's definitely not Mars.
Moons of Madness is currently slated for a Halloween 2019 release, which is appropriate enough, all things considered.
