Marathon was unveiled as Bungie’s upcoming PvP extraction shooter during May 2023’s PlayStation Showcase, guaranteeing that exciting times lay ahead for both fans of the developer and the sub-genre. Its announcement also prompted instant questions about whether or not crossplay might be planned for launch.
A PvP shooter lives and dies by its playerbase, and Marathon launching with cross-platform support would ensure a bigger pool of players to draw from when matchmaking. The feature would also contribute to the multiplatform title’s longevity, which is another important aspect of competitive games.
Marathon Crossplay
Thankfully, Bungie has confirmed that Marathon cross-platform support is planned as soon as it unveiled the game.
“Marathon is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC with full cross-play and cross-save,” reads a post on the PlayStation Blog.
- Marathon crossplay status: Available at launch
Given how the shooter is also confirmed to launch on Xbox Series X/S, there’s a good chance that Marathon cross-platform support will extend to Microsoft’s console as well.
Aside from Bungie’s smooth gunplay, the title also aims to focus on player-based storytelling, giving us the tools to create memorable encounters during each individual runs, but also affect its persistent zones.
Marathon doesn’t yet have a release date, but knowing that crossplay is planned for launch removes one potential concern for anyone interested in giving it a try.
