Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 development is underway and VR is one area which publisher Xbox Game Studios and developer Asobo Studio plan to focus on.
VR joins some fairly impressive streaming technology that will allow Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 to simulate weather in real-time and cover the entire planet as part of its game world.

“Very high! Asobo and I have years of experience with VR. We know what a lame-word not allowed and a good implementation look like. We want to find a good solution, for example by cutting the cockpit off from the rest of the world.”, Microsoft Flight Simulator head Jorg Neumann told website DerStandard.at, as translated by AVSIM.com, when asked about VR’s priority during development.
“Then you can move around freely and the world in the background doesn’t start to shimmer. We already started with VR, but we want to do it right.”, he continued.
The interview also reveals that animals, trains, and ships will contribute to making Microsoft Flight Simulator’s world more lively, while the team will be able to “transfer forest fires into the game in real time” thanks to the available technology.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is expected to release at some point next year on PC.
