Aliens: Colonial Marines is one of those games that everybody loves to hate and, honestly, there's no reason for them not to. Upon release, the game not only failed to deliver on virtually every promise that Gearbox had ever made about it, but it was also severely underwhelming and, similarly, underperforming.
One of the main reasons this happened was because of the disappointing manner in which Xenomorph drones behaved in practice. The legendary ultra-predator was thus behaviorally reduced to a droning charge without much in the way of taking advantage of its stealthiness or speed. As it turns out, this was largely due to a single typo in the game's configuration files!
Since its release, Aliens: Colonial Marines has been worked on by a very, very thorough and dedicated modder, who figured out the problem.
In practice, once the typo is fixed - which you can do yourself by following the modder's directions, though the fix will be included in the next release of their mod - the difference in Xeno's behaviour is impressive! According to the modder, with the typo fixed, the Xenomorph will be much more prone to flanking, dispersion and avoiding gunfire, thus making them closer to the actual, lore-dictated version of the dome-headed devils.
"The Xenos are insane now. Unfortunately, they do still stand still at times, but it's much rarer than it was. They run around on walls and the ceiling a lot more and jump on top/over tables and cabinets more, making it much more difficult to deal with many of them."
If you've already bought the game or received it for free, then nothing's really stopping you from giving this mod a shot, right?
