Creature collection plays an important role in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Having multiple Monsties to choose from when building your party gives you much-needed flexibility when you inevitably face opponents with different strengths and weaknesses. The initial max stable size, however, looks quite limiting but, thankfully, upgrades let you increase it to a fairly high number.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin’s maximum stable size determines the number of Monsties that you can choose from when building your active party. They won’t all join with you into battle but, if one foe poses a particular challenge, you can easily switch between different Monsties and use ones that best counter it. Those waiting in the stables don’t always have to stay idle, as you can send them on Monstie Expeditions to retrieve various items while you’re out adventuring.
From what we can tell, the max stable size in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is 200 but you won’t be able to reach it without progressing far into the story. You can upgrade it using Stable Blueprints which you purchase from Melyx Inc. vendors found in each of the game’s hub areas.
New blueprints become available only when you reach a new hub area. There’s a total of five you can buy using Bottle Caps, a currency found in chests inside Everdens or earned from specific subquests. The former are monster dens that are always marked on the map and whose location never changes. Once you’ve found all the chests containing Bottle Caps, their name conveniently changes to Explored Everden.
Here is a list of Stable Blueprint costs:
- Stable Blueprint 1 - 5 Bottle Caps
- Stable Blueprint 2 - 14 Bottle Caps
- Stable Blueprint 3 - 18 Bottle Caps
- Stable Blueprint 4 - 22 Bottle Caps
- Stable Blueprint 5 - 26 Bottle Caps
You can always check your maximum stable size at the stables, in the Edit Monstie Party menu. In the upper right corner of the screen, you should spot the number next to a small monster head, both against a dark background.
