Nacon Connect came with a lot of goodies and new video game announcements this year, and it’s likely that fans of online horror games will respond well to what The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is promising: a new co-op adventure with conquistadors and genuine dread at the centre.
The trailer, which you can watch below, is a generous first look at the new game from ACE Team, the studio behind the famous Zeno Clash and Rock of Ages series. This time around, even if otherworldly horrors are involved, the team is taking on far more grounded material though.
When does The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu release?
It’s good that Nacon and ACE Team chose to charge forward with an in-game look at The Mound from the get-go, as far too many online co-op games present themselves with a CG trailer that isn’t representative of the final product. As it stands, the release window is set for 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, so the inclusion of gameplay in this reveal trailer makes us hopeful about the state of the game.
Lovecraft fans who have done their reading will also notice this co-op adventure is inspired by Lovecraft’s novella The Mound. The basic premise of the game? Spaniards embarking on an “expedition to discover a legendary underground city rumored to hold priceless treasures” that, unsurprisingly, goes terribly wrong when they start finding signs of something old and evil.
According to the press release, players can expect both physical threats and hallucinations that may lead them to attack their only friends in a jungle that feels alien. If we had to guess, this is the one multiplayer game you’ll want to play with the mic on this year. In fact, the trailer already suggests that.
