New World has proven to be no stranger to launch day issues, following in the footsteps of other MMORPGs that have caught the eye of many players. Among the more confusing ones counts an issue that sees users getting a black screen after character creation.
New World’s black screen after character creation can leave you with the impression that the title’s stuck in some sort of connection limbo, your hero doomed to never emerge from the black void that’s seemingly engulfed them. It also doesn’t help that this comes right after your ship is attacked, but fret not – all’s (mostly) well.
The best thing to do when New World blesses you with a black screen after character creation is, actually, being patient and waiting. After a period of time which can range from a couple of seconds to a couple of minutes, you should end up put into a queue that, eventually, lets you join others on your server.
This is likely not the outcome you expected but if you immediately quit the game, you can run into a longer queue than if you waited for the black screen to go away. That being said, some players have had to quit and restart the MMORPG to get it working. If it takes too long without any sign of change, doing so might not be such a bad idea.
Hopefully, in a few days’ time we’ll look at this issue as silly release day weirdness. For more on New World, drop by our guides on hemp locations and map size.
