The team behind OpenRa, the open-source project that modernizes classic RTS games such as Red Alert, Command & Conquer, and Dune 2000, has announced that playtest 20241116 is now live alongside a handful of notable additions and improvements.
Aside from “enhanced visuals, new tools and improved performance across the board,” the latest playtest comes with a revamped map editor that now boasts several new features.

Those interested in creating maps for the titles can now rely on draggable selections, draggable actors, a selection of measurement tools, a marker layer, play button, and more.
Tiberian Dawn has also received an encyclopedia that gathers in-game information about the classic RTS title’s units, structures, and technologies.
Furthermore, OpenRa’s playtest 20241116 comes with “significantly improved support for HD art assets” alongside faster load times.
The list of changes goes on, including the addition of two new Red Alert missions and improved naval AI.
High-quality Dune 2000 assets are now default and come with “lots of extra visual polish” while a fairly large number of fixes and various technical changes should make for an overall smoother experience when playing the supported games and otherwise interacting with the project.
The full changelog is available on GitHub. OpenRA’s latest playtest awaits on the project’s official website, where you’ll also find the preceding release build.
