When you think about city building games, you’re likely envisioning peacefully building a medieval settlement or urban metropolis while ignoring your failing finances, rather than saving the orcish horde from the brink of destruction. The latter is precisely the approach which Publisher CreativeForge Games and developer G-Devs.com are taking with their upcoming title Orc Warchief: Strategy City Builder.
Despite its name, the orcs in Orc Warchief: Strategy City Builder haven’t had the time to develop refined tastes when it comes to architecture. It’s no surprise, either, as you step into the shoes of a young Warchief leading them after they’ve suffered a great defeat at the hands of those nasty humans. It’s up to you to rebuild villages, provide for their inhabitants and build up an army to get revenge.
“In this strategic city builder your goal is to rebuild the might of The Horde. You need to gather necessary resources to build your buildings and expand your village. Gather food to feed your growing population. Mine metal and forge weapons necessary for your army. Train your warriors and equip them with various armour and gear. Build defences to buy time for preparations and strike when you’re ready for war,” reads Orc Warchief: Strategy City Builder’s Steam description.
But gathering resources won’t get you far if you don’t manage them properly and balance the needs of your population. Since you’re not quite the top dog, you can raid human villages and caravans to become feared and increase your fame, which in turn draws more orcs to your banner.
Worshipping different gods grants devastating powers that can be used when you inevitably take the fight to the humans. As much as it’s presented as a city builder first, war does seem to play a big role, at least going by the relatively small amount of details we have about the game at the moment.
You can follow Orc Warchief: Strategy City Builder on Steam where it can also be wishlisted, which seemingly gets you a neat discount. There’s no word on how much the game will cost but we were told that it’s expected to be out at some point this year.
